The Bushmen's Tea Company - Home of Rooibos Tea

Rooibos Tea as a Skin Preparation

Rooibos has been used by the Khoisan Tribe of South Africa for hundreds of years as an infusion and herbal medicine. It was discovered in the 18th century by a botanist named Carl Humberg and began to be used by South Africans. In 1904 Benjamin Ginsberg started marketing it to the world calling it Mountain Tea.

The Bushmen’s Tea Company Ltd has been formed as a joint venture between Arno Lotz, a farmer of Rooibos based in the Cedarberg Mountains and John Cardwell based in the UK who has worked in the Tea Market for over 25 years. The farm is cultivated with a careful regard for the biodiversity of the land, care for employees is paramount and conservation of the history of the land is also a priority. The Company Logo is taken from a picture of Bushmen’s Handprints on a rock escarpment high on the farm dating back centuries. On the ground under the escarpment are discarded stones that have been clearly used as hand tools.

The Rooibos we can offer is the freshest, sweetest tea that can be supplied. Because it comes from one farm we can give proper provenance and traceability. The Tea will only be sifted and packed once the client has agreed the specification. A certificate of residual pesticide levels will be supplied with each delivery. Rooibos is clinically proven to be rich in Anti-oxidants.

Used as a skin preparation it is excellent for conditions such as Eczema, Psoriasis, and Dermatitis. It soothes nappy rash and improves skin conditions in acne sufferers. The tea can either be applied to the skin, used as a wash or a drench for the hair to relieve dry, itchy scalp or used in soaps and cleansers. Hospitals in South Afirca routinely use Rooibos in baths for children with skin conditions as well as giving it as a drink.
